Blaugrana Blitz: Puyol remains positive, Pique’s “Superorgasmo” & training pics

Barcelona Captain Carlos Puyol feels that even though they were knocked out of the Copa del Rey: “We wanted to win, we wanted to progress to the next round. But it was not to be. We lost in dignity.”

He also defended coach Guardiola by saying “The team and the game was well prepared. His approach to work and his whole team was very good. We are all very proud of Guardiola.”

The captain feels that some good can come off this first set back that they’ve experienced since Pep took over: “This will make us stronger. Now we will fight harder for the League and Champions League.”

Puyol’s defensive partner Gerard Pique believes that to win the Champions League at the Bernabeu will be phenomenal: “it would be my third Champions League, and if we won it at the Bernabeu it would be fantastic.”

(Btw in the interview, he described the feeling that he would experience if they win at the Bernabeu as “superorgasmo” 😀 )

Pique recognizes how difficult it would be to repeat last years success: “if in109 years no team had achieved it, it is almost impossible to do it in 2 straight years.”

On whether he will be signing for Real Madrid: “I do not want to be at any other club. I would like to retire at the Camp Nou. I am very happy here.”

He also had words of praise for his team mate Lionel Messi saying that the Argentine is “more dangerous” than Cristiano Ronaldo. And even though they may have tumbled out of the Copa del Rey he believs that Pep is the right man to be incharge at Barca: “he has ideas and he conveys his message across to us with ease. He would go to the end of the world for this club”

In the post match conference yesterday, Pep Guardiola apologosed for having “failed.” Yet again, he has taken full responsibilty for the result against Sevilla…even though I don’t think anyone is blaming Pep for them being knocked out. Pure class, as per usual with Pep..

“I would’ve liked things to be different, but things are as they are, we are out of the competition. It is not good news even if people say that we can now concentrate on La Liga and the Champions League. In sport, we are taught not to lose and this has affected us.”

But like Puyol, Pep feels that they can draw positives from this and he is sure of his teams hunger for success, despite having won everyrthing already.

“With this squad and these players maybe I should have got more out of them in the Cup and not lost in the last 16 and I am sorry that I failed. I saw reactions in the dressing room that pleased me. This shows we still have the hunger to win. We went down staying faithful to our style of play and now we need to get ourselves together again for the future.”

The team returned to training today. All were in attendance except Alves who was granted permission to stay the night in Sevilla after their loss on Wednesday. The players who played on Wednesday did their treatments in the locker room. Pique was the only starting player who took to the field with the rest if the squad. Abidal, Puyol and Henry also did a couple of stretching exercies on the pitch. Jeffren is still injured and trained all alone..

Valdès received a round of applause as it was his 28th birthday. Happy Birthday Vic!

The next training session is tomorrow morning at 11a.m.
