Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United: Review

This was football at its best. Chelsea worked well and hard for their 3 points, giving them a 5 point cushion over Man Utd. Chelsea were all over United in the first half, pushing forward particularly down the right, lead by Anelka, who seems to have a new lease of life under Ancelotti. Ivanovic also impressed, feeding the midfield. I just feel that Ballack and Deco never really settled in and are perhaps the baggage in the team. On United’s part, they came out in the second half, raring to go. Rooney was a constant threat, but without the likes of Ronaldo and Tevez, he doesn’t have enough support and nothing materialized of his chances. The second half turned ugly after Evan’s got his studs to Drogba’s chest. At first I thought that “The Drog” was playacting as usual, but it turned out to look like a pretty nasty piece of work from Evans. Besides his little bit of drama, Drogba was kept silent by Evan’s and Brown. Terry gave Chelsea their win with a header, which is somewhat controversial, as Drogba was offside when the ball went it. I feel that it was a tight call, and the benefit must be given to Chelsea, who deserved to win. And in the dying moments of the game, United stepped up their game and Chelsea was lucky to not concede. Mainly thanks to Carvarlho, who was phenomenal at the back for Chelsea. Overall, I feel Ancelotti is a very clever manager. It’s hard to think that this same team was struggling so much this time last season, the new manager seems to have transformed the team. It was a persevered win for Chelsea, they were the better team.
