Eeeek I’ve been so caught up with “el Clàsico” I almost forget that my favourite English team are playing an important derby today!
Its Everton vs Liverpool!!!
So both these sides have been off colour of late. Liverpool finally managed a win – over Debrecen yet sadly this wasn’t enough to see them through to the round of 16. Echoing the words of Carra: EUROPA LEAGUE HERE WE COME!
Everton are struggling to keep a pace with the upper half of the table. They are currently floating just above the relegation zone in 16th. The loss to Hull midweek was a heavy blow, their morale is surely low at this point. Whether Liverpool can take advantage of that is doubtful, I can’t remember the last time the Reds had such a pathetic start to their season.
Well the injury plague that had hit Liverpool seems to be weathering down. Torres is still doubtful, but maybe Rafa will give him a run. Reira is still nursing that hamstring injury. Babel is injured and will not feature (maybe thats a good thing) while Degen is suspended. Ngog and Benayoun are both in good form and are match-fit. Hopefully they get a game. Alberto Aquilani is still stuck in that roll of cotton wool that Rafa wrapped him in the day he set foot in England. Talk is that he won’t make his first Premiership start, but that Rafa will give him another cameo ::yawn::
As for the Toffees, it seems that their neighbours injury troubles have rubbed off on them. Leon Osman, Phil Neville, Mikel Arteta, Phil Jagielka, Victor Anichebe and James Vaughan are all sidelined. But they have the return of Marouane Fellaini and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov for consolidation. Jack Rodwell is doubtful after sustaining an injury against Hull.
According to Rafa, Liverpool’s new aim of the season is to manage a top 4 finish. It still leaves me frustrated that a club of Liverpool’s stature can have such low set goals. Aren’t we supposed to be competing for titles? This is the same club that gave United such a close run last season, the club that finished second a few months ago. I am still finding to difficult to understand what and why it’s all going wrong…A win today will propell them to 5th (from their current 7th position).
Anyways, whatever the result, I will still support Liverpool, as I have done the past 16 years.
