Kop Talk: Torres wants ‘Pool to spend big, Maxi signs a 3 Year deal

After the Reds disappointing result against Reading on Wednesday, the issue of whether Rafa Benitez’s job is on the line has risen again. This time former Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink has been brought into the loop.

The Daily Mail has reported that Hiddink would “jump at the opportunity” to coach Liverpool, but he would seek the approval of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich first.

After Liverpool lost at home to Reading, it seems the fans have turned against Benitez for the first time. Its been reported that radio stations were flooded with angry fans calling in and demanding he be sacked.

Well his job seems safe till the end of the season atleast. Let’s see ehat happens after that. I fear that Liverpool fans will become more frustrated if nothing is won (I think we’re only in the running for Europa League this season) or we don’t finish top 4…

To add to the misery, there’s been an injury exodus: Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard & Yossi Benayoun have all sustained injuries.

Fernando Torres wants the club’s American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett to spend big in order to compete with the big teams.

Torres said: “It’s frustrating. We finished second last season. This season should have been a turning point for us – a chance to do something great.”

“Manchester United sold Carlos Tévez and Cristiano Ronaldo, while Chelsea didn’t sign anyone. But it hasn’t been. It’s now the owners’ turn. They have to sign players so that this does not happen again.

“If we want to compete with United and Chelsea we need a much, much more complete squad. We need more genuinely first-class players and we can’t let our best players leave.”

He also shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s current title hopes:

“We didn’t want to win the Europa League at the start of the season but it’s a reality now.

“Now we have to win it. Anything less than winning the tournament would be terrible. We need to improve, we need to take responsibility and we need to get into the top four and win something.

“We have virtually no chance of winning the title now. Now we need to make the best of this situation.”

And, incase you haven’t heard already: Maxi Rodriguez has signed for Liverpool from Atletico Madrid. He is brought in to give the team more options up front.

“I am very happy. This is a big, new phase for me at a huge club,” said the Argentine.

“I knew a chapter in my career was coming to an end after the four-and-a-half years I spent at Atletico Madrid.

“I had aspirations on a personal level to move on and to participate in the Premier League.

“When the chance came up to play for Liverpool, I was ready for the change and I have taken it.

“I am glad to be at a club with such high aspirations as Liverpool.

“I also have ambitions to reach the highest levels, so I am pleased to be here and to try and help Liverpool achieve some success.

“For any player it is a great honour to pull on the Liverpool shirt and I’d like to do that as soon as possible.

“I am looking forward to a successful time here. I want to help the institution that is Liverpool and contribute the best I can.”

“I am also hoping to learn English and I tried to study a little bit before I came over here.

“Both on a social and footballing level, I am ready get on with it, integrate and contribute to the best of my ability.”

We wish him the best of luck!
