The situation over at Stamford Bridge seems to be worsening. This time Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has had to defend himself in the press yet again. It was concerning his management of the club, and he cited the all encompassing “I just hold onto my self belief and my belief in the players.”
I previously mentioned that the manager-owner relationship was in hot water, and Villas-Boas has spent the last week denying any such speculation. Given that this is Chelsea’s worst start to a season in recent times, and given Roman Abramovich’s reputation for sacking his managers without so much as two weeks notice, one would assume that Villas-Boas’ time at Stamford Bridge is up. I do feel for the managers that get roped in my the Blues, it really takes time to mould a team into what you want them to be. None of these guys (except Mou) hs been able to bring stability to Chelsea. Also, the Chelsea players themselves are rumoured to show little respect for some managers. Villas Boas had to recently call a crisis meeting to nit-pick through the cliques in the dressing room. I truly believe that if Abramovich just gave these managers enough time, they’d produce results. Teams aren’t built overnight, or over half a season for that matter! The numbers speak for themselves, 8 different managers in the last 10 years.
Villas-Boas has aged in a mere 5 months under pressure at Chelsea:
