• Football legend Zinedine Zidane has declared that he’s “rather die” then apologise to Marco Materazzi, the victim of his head-butt in the 2006 World Cup Final. Zizou’s comments come after Materazzi said that he was still waiting for Zidane’s apology. Zidane responded: “After the game, I went into the dressing room and told them, ‘Forgive me. This doesn’t change anything, but sorry everyone. But to him I can’t. Never, never. It would be to dishonor me. … I’d rather die.”

Zidane also revealed that at the time, his mother was ill in hospital, and it wasn’t the first time “they” had insulted his mother.

“If it was Kaka, an ordinary guy, a good guy, of course I would have apologized. But to this one!” Zidane said. “If I ask forgiveness of him, I lack respect for myself and for all those I love with all my heart.”
