Yay! There’s good News for Barca fans. Our favourite defender Gerard Pique is all set to renew his contract! He will remain with us till 2014. Well, nothing has been formalised as yet. In early December Txiki Begiristain, the Barca Technical Advisor and Arturo Canales, Pique’s representitive met, but there was a slight dispute over the renewal. But I believe a verbal agreement has now been met between both parties, and Pique should put pen to paper soon. Club president Joan Laporta told a radio station a few days ago: “Pique will be the next to renew his contract because he deserves it. Today Gerard is one of the the finest defenders in the world.”
Pique will be in the second highest earning bracket of the club, alongside Victor Valdes and Carlos Puyol. His current buy out clause is €50 million and is set to be raised to €150 million. It is reported that he will earn €5 million per anum.
Pique, who is only focused on winning more titles has decided to leave the negotations to his representitives, and will emerge only to finalise the agreement. Pique has developed as an extremely versatile player, his ability to play the ball forward is one of his greatest attributes, not to mention that he’s easy on the eyes. He admits to enjoy playing more of a midfielders role, and he did pretty well in that capacity for Catalunya against Argentina. With the African Cup of Nations near, he will be indispensable to Barca, and the club are eager to wrap up the deal before the upcoming presidental elections.
Gerard has always maintained that Barca is the club of his heart, and now he will be repaid 🙂
Did I mention… We’re overjoyed!
New Manchester City coach Mancini is eager to boost the intergrity of his squad and he’s got his eye on Barcelona. Word has it that he’s after Thierry Henry and Yaya Toure. Even though City went on somewhat of a shopping spree in the summer, they view Henry as a cheaper alternative to Fernando Torres, Frank Ribery & David Villa. While Yaya Toure has been unsettled at Barca and City are hoping to exploit that. Well, we wish them luck in trying to lure away these players from a club that has just won 6 titles.
Gaby Milito will be abck in action this January! Pep will be relieved as he needs players to cover the abscence of Toure and Keita (African Cup of Nations) as well as Jeffren and Iniesta (injury). This is great as Barca are poised to play a maximum of 9 games this month.
Barcelona return to training tomorrow, the 29th December. A day later than most Spanish teams returned. However Pep Guardiola has set a tough schedule for the guys, a double session on Wednesday, one at 11a.m and one at 6p.m. On new years day, there will be a session at 7p.m. They play Villareal on the 2nd of January, but not before another training session in the morning.
You’d think they would get some rest, but nope, it’s straight back to training for the next 2 days, in preparation for their Copa del Rey clash with Seville.
