Blaugrana Blitz: Pep to stay on!

Pep made all our drems come true today! Joan Laporta confirmed that he has a gentleman’s agreement in place that will see Pep stay with Barca for one more year!

“It’s an honour to have the best manager in the world with us for another year. I spoke to Guardiola yesterday evening and he told me he was willing to stay on for at least another year in charge. Pep has the guarantee of the club and we have his word – that’s solid”.

The actual contract will be signed with the newly elected president in July: “The new president will establish the conditions of the deal after July 1st. Our intention was to renew the deal, but he made me see that it might be better this way,” continued Laporta.

Pep had his training session at 11 am, and afterwards went to the Camp Nou with Joan Laporta and Txiki Begiristain, to announce that he was extending his deal for another year.

Pep admitted that he would’ve liked to renew at the end of the season, but after Barca got knocked out of the Cup, the matter had to be settled. “It makes the weeks seem longer. It was a situation that was already uncomfortable for everyone – we had to kill off the matter.”

“I couldn’t be better anywhere else. I feel strong enough to carry on. I don’t want to be here for what we’ve done but for what we must do now,” Pep tols the press conference.

Pep also tried to mnaintain a level head through it all: “Sooner or later I’ll stop being the manager of Barça. We know that anything can happen in four months. What can seem obvious now might not be in four months’ time.”

I really couldn’t be happier, this made my day 🙂 Barca needs Pep. Beside his technical skills, his players play for him, and that’s the most important thing.
