It has come and gone faster than we could say “Andrea Pirlo,” but the tournament surely packed a punch. In the event which saw Spain win their third successive major title, many a champ was out to prove his woth. But it was eventually Andres Iniesta who was named as player of the tournament, and well deserved it is. Iniesta was voted the most influential player in 3 out 6 games including the final. UEFA confirmed that they struggled to make the decision with excellent candidates at hand, but eventually it was obvious to give it to the one who helped his team win the trophy.
Andy Roxburgh, the head of UEFA’s technical group : “Andrea Pirlo was magnificent for Italy, Xavi won it last time and could have won it again. Xabi Alonso was magnificent but Iniesta sends a message about creative and incisive football and was superb throughout.
