Real Madrid are ready to battle it out with Barca over Cesc Fabregas. Its been reported that Cesc has a gentlemans agreement with Wenger to leave Arsenal at the end of this season. Cesc came up through the Barca youth ranks, and was a part of the legendary cantera class of ’87. But he never made an appearance for the first team and left for Arsenal at 16 to look for more playing opportunities. Rumours of a possible switch deal involving Krkic and Toure have appeared in the Daily Mail. Another rumour was the switch of Toure for Mascherano. I’m still trying to decide whether these will be smart moves or not (if any of these rumours materialise into something). Toure gives what a lot of holding mid fielders don’t: height. Whilst Mascherano is a class player, he doesn’t do much in the air and I still feel that Toure is a bit more creative. But seeing that I have soft spots for both Liverpool and Barcelona, I have to say that I hope that this deal goes through. Liverpool desperately need something extra, and Toure may be the answer. We all know that Masch’s family wants out, and I’m starting to believe that the Argentine captain doesn’t see eye with the boss. The best thing for ‘Pool to do is to let him go, I don’t believe in keeping a player at a club if his heart is not in it.
About the Krkic + Toure for “Fab”, while I do believe that Cesc is an awesome player and that he has Barca in his DNA etc etc I think this is going to be a stupid move. Solely because, Barca will be repeating their past mistakes. They lost Cesc to Arsenal all those years ago, they have now come back to reclaim their “son” and its proving to be difficult and costly. Krkic has shown far more potential than Cesc did when he was a Barca rookie. He’s broken into the squad and is really developing well. If they sell him, they’re just going to want to buy him back in 5 years for 10X more than they let him go for. Barcelona has the best youth system in the world, and they should really hold onto the fruits that they bear.
Real Madrid star Kaka believes that Messi will scoop the FIFA World Player of the year award. The man who won it two years ago believes that the Argentine maestro will win it because of his achievements with Barca. And i think he deserves it. Now I’m going to say something that may touch a nerve. Messi is one of the finest in the world and has been instrumental for Barca, but that’s about it. I’m not one of those critics that expect him to produce his club form for his country, no no no. Messi is undoubtedly a fabulous player, but it is largely thanks to those that play behind him (Xavi, Iniesta) and the truth is that Argentina don’t have players like that. I just believe that if you’re a truly a great footballer, you will deliver for your country. Don’t get me wrong, I myself am a big fan of Messi. But for me, players like Zidane, Ronaldinho and even Kaka who shine in their national colours will be remembered as greats. I believe that Messi will definitely come good for Los Albiceleste, but until then, he’s just one of the really good footballers of today. Hopefully he will shine at the World Cup next year.
