FC Barcelona: On Top of the World! Match Review & Pictures

Barcelona are officially the best club team in the World. They overcame their South American opponents to win 2-1 in a thrilling final. But it wasn’t their usual fluid display of football. I felt that they somewhat struggled, especially in the first half. Estudiante had clearly done their homework on Barca and put them to task. Barca’s lack of pace eventually caught up with them in the 37th minute when Mauro Boselli put Estudiantes ahead with a stunning header. The South American’s were well organized. Barca looked like they had run out of ideas on how to penetrate their defense. At half time, Barca were 1-0 down.

At the start of the second half, they took forever to return to the pitch, as Pep was still conducting his team talk in the tunnel! The manager brought on Pedro for Keita, who looked to be struggling after taking a knock in the first half. He then brought on Yaya Toure for Busquets and Jeffren for Henry. This was a bold move by Pep, but Jeffren really transformed the game. He was amazing, and gave Barca more options. Barca had to toil for their goal, and it came from Pedro (who is fast becoming a favourite of mine) in the 89th minute. That goal took them into extra time, and the crowd favourite Lionel Messi put in the winner, with his chest mind you, in the 110th minute. Barca were given a last minute scare when Desabato looked like he might score with his head, but it wasn’t meant to be. Barca have now won 6 titles this year, a tremendous achievement. As a club, they have won every trophy they possibly could (Check out The Only One that was Missing). This team will go down as one of the beat teams in the history of the game

The celebrations by the Barca players and manager were evidence of how much this trophy meant to them. Pep Guardiola was overcome with emotion. He shed tears of joy something we’ve never seen before as he’s usually very composed (except for the time he ran down the touch line like a maniac in the Champions League semi-final last season lol. For that video and more of that kinda stuff, check out Pep the Comedian). He quickly recovered as he was “consolled” by Henry & Ibra. They eventually pulled on their claret and blue to recieve their medals & trophy.

Pep Overcome with Emotion:

Lionel Messi’s winner, scored “with his heart”

The presentation:

Fairplay Award: Atlante FC

Bronze Ball: Xavi Hernandez

Silver Ball:Juan Veron

Right, now for the match pictures. There are a lot, and they are HUGE.
