Branislav Ivanovic’s agent, Vlado Borozan, has confirmed the interest from Real Madrid. He however downplayed Ivanovic’s chances of leaving the Blues.
“The interest of Real Madrid is true, but I don’t think the Blues are willing to sell him at this moment,” said Vlado Borozan.
“Carlo Ancelotti has admired him since he was Milan’s coach, and now Ivanovic is part of his plans of Chelsea, it seems very difficult that Real can take him.”
With the English clubs growing interest in Karim Benzema, the Frenchman has waved away any such talk.
He declared: “I only want to succeed with Madrid.”
Ferguson has made no secret that he’s an admirer of Benzema, while there’s been speculation of interest from Chelsea and Manchester City. However Arsenal are considered to be the forerunners to land Benzema should he go out on loan.
Xabi Alonso told Marca of his time at Real so far: “We are close to the top spot in La Liga, which is where we belong, and in the Champions League we finished as the top seed in our group. I think our goal of earning positive results is being accomplished. We are growing in terms of the quality of our football. This is a new project and it includes many new faces on and off the pitch. There is a lot of room for improvement.”
“I feel more and more comfortable as the team improves and has a better understanding of how it should play together. The better we attack the better we defend, and vice versa. What is also true is that the better one individual plays, the better the team plays.”
“A good team is built around good players, but they must be team players and not at all selfish.”
Xabi also singled out Madrid’s main rivals: “We want to win both titles and we know it is possible. Our main league rival is Barcelona, but Sevilla and Valencia are close behind.”
He then went on to elaborate on Spain’s position at the World Cup: “Spain is among the favorites for to win the World Cup. Brazil is first, followed by Spain, England, Germany… We are among the top teams and will not relinquish that post.”
Meanwhile Rafael van der Vaart gave an interview to AS.
“I have said from day one that I want to do well playing for the best club in the world. You have to fight at all times in life, not just in football, and I am not going to even consider giving up now. I will continue fighting to be an important member of this team.”
He paid tribute to his team mates:
“It is a pleasure to play alongside the likes of Higuain, Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo,” he said.
“It is very easy to be a footballer on a team like this one because is is full of great people. I went through a tough time, but I never spoke negatively about the club or my teammates. I put pressure on myself and I knew I wasn’t in good shape. My teammates always stood by me.”
He spoke of his aspirations for 2010: “I want 2010 to be more stable and I want to continue helping the team. I also ask for health and many titles.”
“My national team coach told me that I needed playing time to be fit for the World Cup. I am going through a good phase and having the World Cup right after the season ends is a big motivating factor.”
