The Countdown Continues…

Today marks 100 days till we kick-off from Soccer City, Johannesburg. On June 11, 2010 people from all walks of life will focus their attention on South Africa for that historic moment.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter is currently in SA and has assured everyone that there is “no doubt” that South Africa is ready to host the tournament.

R33 billion has been poured into preparation for the World Cup. All the 10 stadiums that will showcase matches are ready for use. Airport revamps were undertaken in Johannesburg, Cape Town &
Bloemfontein and the new Durban International Airport will be opened on May 1st. With growing concerns about security, 41 000 extra police have been recruited.

Celebrations throughtout the country to mark the 100 day countdown:
Schoolchildren wore football jerseys instead of schooluniforms. Street Parties have been happening all in all the major cities. One held in Sandton had people dancing the “diski” (kinda like football moves, but its a dance).

I myself am super-psyched for it! if anyone is heading to South Africa for the World Cup, do let me know!
