King Kenny remains unbeaten against Chelsea. A mere 10 days after Liverpool overcame the Blues in the Premier League, The Reds put a nail in the coffin and dispelled any cynics who thought the first win was a fluke. Craig Bellamy, who has had an emotional rollercoaster of a few days after losing his good mate Gary Speed, returned to the side and set up the two goals for Liverpool in the League Cup match. A minutes applause was held for Gary Speed at the beginning of the game, Bellamy looked like he was going to cry.
AVB, who did well to win against Wolves opted to start with Torres this time. Chelsea dominated the opening minutes, but a handball by Alex gave the Reds a penalty… which Carrol failed to convert. For 58 minutes neither team scored or had very many chances, but it was a game you didn’t want to take your eyes off (and I was switching between this match and the Barcelona game). Then Bellamy set up Maxi Rodrigues who finished off his 2nd goal against Chelsea. A mere 5 minutes later a Bellamy free kick found Kelly, who had no problem putting in Liverpool’s second for the night. Concerns over Lucas’ injury that he picked up in the game, the club says h will be going for a scan soon. (*edit: news just in, the knee injury is expected to keep Lucas out for 6 months) Also, any predictions for how long more AVB has at Stamford bridge?
As for Fernando Torres, he seems to still be struggling with Chelsea and failed to make an impact against his former team. The fans that once loved him booed him every time he got the ball, which was approximately 5 times. Even worse, he’s looking rather washed out. But I’ve always maintained that blue isn’t his colour.
It was wonderful to hear the travelling fans rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” I could barely hear the commentators over it! It never fails to give me goosebumps:) I’ve always maintained that Liverpool fans are probably the best in the world (I don’t say that cos I am one) but check this out, its not from last night but its still amazing:
